Hot Silicon

Idea: Electric fan heaters draw a lot of power.

Computers draw much less power but generate a lot of heat

Idea: Use "hot" silicon to heat elements. A combination of chips that get hot won't use more than 200Watts, even when combined with a micro fan like those in a PC.

High heat, low power, low running cost.

It could also be installed in cars for the period before the water system heats up to give near instant heat

Solar Powered Launderettes

Idea: Solar-powered launderettes in town centres.  Solar panels on the roofs and connection to local wind turbines.  All customers will be encouraged to use environmentally-friendly washing detergents in the machines.

Bio Diesel Stations

Idea: Create Bio Diesel stations where restaurants can drop off their used oil.  The station can run it through filters and resell it to cars that are able to run on bio diesel.

Hybrid Requirement

Idea: Pass a law requiring all new vehicles in the US to adopt hybrid technology and be x percent more efficient than their gas only predecessors.  If the vehicle is just 15% more efficient than the gas version, the US would drastically reduce reliance on foreign oil.  An additional benefit is lower cost on hybrid technology, and reduced gasoline transmissions.

Concertina-sided Drink Cartons

Idea: Concertina-sided drinks cartons. Sell them at music festivals, funfairs etc. When empty they are easily flattened down into a round disk which can be "posted" in a recycling bin.  Will save hours of picking up litter strewn over acres of land.

Dry Erase Board Swipe

Idea: Build into the top and bottom of a dry erase board tracks that can hold a board height dry eraser that can travel from side to side.  That way when you need to clean the board, you just slide this from one side to the next and you are ready to go.  It can even have a small vacuum attached to it that sucks the dry erase as you move it along the board.  Then all you have to do is empty a small container.

Pool Water Holding Tanks

Idea: I own a pool, and between the rain, and the sun, I am either adding water to the pool or pumping it off.  When I pump it off, it is gone forever.  Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to pump the excess water after a large rain into a holding tank that I could draw from when it doesn’t rain for awhile.  This would conserve a great deal of water.

Returnable Christmas Trees

Idea:  It is a shame that Christmas trees are thrown out as garbage after Christmas. It would be great if those trees were live and potted and they could be returned back to the warehouse where they came from.

Animal Saver

Idea:   Change the 6 pack plastic holders to rip when a bottle or can is extracted.  This will eliminate at least part of the problem where they present a hazard to animals.  This could be accomplished just by adding a semi cut to each part that gives when the beverage is pulled out.

Take My Junk Please

Idea: I am always amazed at the fact that when I place something at the curb to be picked up by the trash company like an old bicycle, or furniture, it is gone by morning.  There is a market out there for people’s unwanted trash.  More often than not, the person just wants to get rid of it.  Garage sales, posting it in the paper either cost more than the item is worth, or are too much trouble. 

So, wouldn’t it be nice if those stalkers in the middle of the night knew exactly where to go, and what they would get for their effort.  The person with the trash could list it on a site, and the trash picker could go straight to the items location.  This would reduce unnecessary gasoline consumption, and landfill population.
